High-converting creative ideas don’t come from brainstorming in a conference room. They come from three concrete sources we use daily for every client. Here’s the exact method.
1. The gold mine: audience comments
First step: open competitor accounts and the accounts of creators in your niche. Don’t look at the videos. Look at the comments. Sort by “most liked”.
At Mondly we found 47 real user objections in one afternoon (“I forget words”, “it’s boring”, “free apps”). We made 8 clips that directly address those objections. 3 out of 8 crossed 1M organic views. Cost: 0 euros for research.
Comments contain the exact words the audience uses. You copy them into the hook. You don’t translate, you don’t rewrite.
2. Ad Library as a museum of ideas
TikTok Ad Libraryshows you all active ads from a brand. You don’t have direct performance data, but you have a simple signal: ads that have been running for 30+ days are profitable. Otherwise they wouldn’t be running.
At Blindspot we analyzed 140 ads from direct competitors over a weekend. We identified 3 recurring angles that seemed to scale. We adapted them for our product. One of the 3 became our top ad in Q4.
3. Existing customer reviews
The 4-star reviews, not the 5-star ones. The 5-star ones are generic enthusiasm. The 4-star ones contain “but” and “I would have liked”. That’s where the gold is.
Real example: at Creative Tim, a review said “perfect, but I would have liked a tutorial for beginners”. We made a 6-clip series “Bootstrap for non-developers”. We pulled in a completely new segment, which is now 22% of sales.
The method in 30 minutes
Set a timer for 30 minutes. 10 minutes scanning comments on 3 competitors, you note the 5 most-requested things. 10 minutes opening Ad Library and noting 3 angles that show up consistently. 10 minutes reading 3 and 4-star reviews of your product and competitors’.
You walk out with at least 8-12 validated ideas. Not “creative” in the sense of artistic inspiration. They’re ideas based on what already interests the audience.
Why classic brainstorming doesn’t work
Brainstorming produces ideas that sound good in the room. They have nothing to do with what users want. At Peugeot we tried the classic formula once: 3 creatives come up with 20 concepts. We ran the 6 best concepts. Average CTR 0.8%. Then we applied the method above: average CTR on 5 new concepts was 3.4%. 4x difference, with less work.
How you turn a validated idea into a clip
Idea + hook + visual proof. The hook comes from exactly the users’ words. The visual proof is the product in action or a demonstration.
Shoot 5 variants on the same idea. Each with a different hook. Post organic, see what works, that one you promote paid. This pipeline at SoulStream.ai cut CAC by 38% in 6 weeks.
Creativity is never missing. What’s missing is the method to find ideas that already work. Apply the cycle above weekly and you won’t have problems with “new ideas” anymore.
